Hidden History
Herman Miller
Now home to Bath Spa University’s Locksbrook Campus, this Grade II listed building was originally designed in the 1970s by Nicholas Grimshaw for furniture maker Herman Miller. Built to reflect the company’s values, it prioritised user comfort, flexibility and harmony with its riverside surroundings. Its adaptable design includes demountable exterior panels and windows, along with portable bathrooms and a suspended service walkway inside — allowing the space to evolve with changing needs.
Pop into Locksbrook campus to see inspiring graduate shows and check out how the building has been adapted for its new purpose.
