The Herschels

The Herschels

Born in the 1700s, siblings Alexander, Caroline and William Herschel were brilliant scientists, musicians, and thinkers. They discovered the planet Uranus, infrared light and comets. Caroline was a trailblazer: the first woman to work for the British government, the first woman paid as a scientist in Britain, and the first woman to discover a comet.

As night falls, look up! Can you learn a new constellation? The Herschels once gazed at these same stars. Visit the Herschel Museum of Astronomy at their home on New King Street to learn more.
