Dr William Oliver

Dr William Oliver helped open the Bath Mineral Water Hospital (1742 – 2019). Fondly called ‘The Min’, treatments included drinking, bathing in, and being sprayed with the city’s healing waters. Dr Oliver is famous for inventing the Bath Oliver biscuit as a healthier alternative to the sweet Bath bun (which he also invented).

Ever noticed water can taste different? Bath’s hot spring water owes its distinctive flavour to the 43 minerals picked up as it flows underground. Find out more at Bath’s World Heritage Centre on York St or buy a ticket to The Roman Baths to try it yourself.
