Riparian Nature
Fish
A healthy fish population is a great sign of a thriving river. Fish help recycle nutrients, keep the water clean, and support wildlife such as Kingfishers, Grey Herons, Cormorants and Otters. Thanks to restoration and reintroduction projects, species like Barbel have a fighting chance. But migratory fish such as Sea Trout, Salmon and Eels still face challenges, including poor water quality, climate change and barriers like weirs.
Cleaner water, better habitat, fewer barriers and community action can make a real difference. Want to help? Visit the Bristol Avon Rivers Trust website to learn more, and on your next riverside walk, see if you can spot a fish or an angler!
