Bath became one of the first cities to create public spaces with health and wellbeing in mind

Therapeutic Landscape

In Georgian times (1714 – c.1830), Bath became one of the first cities to create public spaces with health and wellbeing in mind. Parks, gardens, and riverside paths were designed to encourage walking, fresh air, and socialising. Time in nature was part of ‘taking the cure’ alongside drinking spa water. Buildings were carefully placed within green spaces to create harmony, beauty and a ‘therapeutic landscape’.

Walk, wheel or cycle the Bath River Line from Newbridge to Batheaston to feel calmer, healthier, and closer to nature.
